Encore cette année, ce n'est pas moins que 20 projets entourant des projets Open Source parraînés par l'OSGeo qui recevront le support du programme Google Summer of Code, édition 2009. Cinq de ces mentors sont francophones!

Les projets sont  :

- Getting time into the GIS for visualization and modeling puposes: netcdf support in uDig (pour Andrea Antonello, avec Jody Garnett)
- PostGIS / WKT Raster driver (pour Jorge Arevalo, avec Tamas Szekeres)
- Adding Bi-directional search algorithm to the pgRouting engine (pour Matthias Stumpp, avec Anton Patrushev)
- GRASS - Network Analysis (pour Daniel Bundala, avec Wolf Bergenheim)
- An AJAX interface for Mapbender administration (pour Karim Malhas, avec christoph baudson)
- Label placement for Quantum GIS (pour Martin Dobias, avec Gary Sherman)
- Developing extension to thematic mapping capabilites of Spatialytics (pour Adhyan Arizki, avec Etienne Dube)
- gvSIG client for symbology definitions via Web Services (pour Christian Reinhold, avec Jorge Sanz)
- MapServer Output Support for KML (pour David Kana, avec Thomas Bonfort)
- JTIN v2: database backed, multi-resolution triangulated irregular network for Java GIS (pour Christopher DeMars, avec Landon Blake)
- Web Map Tiles for uDig (pour Tobias Sauerwein, avec Jesse Eichar)
- v.autokrige: Python porting and wxPython GUI addition (pour Anne Ghisla, avec Martin Landa)
- OpenRouter Network builder. (pour Mohammad Ashraf Hossain, avec Stephen Woodbridge)
- GeoXACML-Integration  (pour Christian Mueller, avec Andrea Aime)
- gdal2ogr conversion API + utility (pour Kedron Touvell, avec Tim Keitt)
- MapServer- Support for reading SVG symbols (pour Kiran Anjaneya Varma Alluri, avec Daniel Morissette)
- OssimPlanet integration in Grass and Qgis (pour Massimo Di Stefano, avec Mark Lucas)
- WMS Tiling Cache support in gvSIG Proposal (pour Xi Chen, avec Luis W. Sevilla)
- Spatialytics – GeoReport – CDF integration (pour Giovanni Onofri, avec Thierry Badard)
- CSW Client for Mapbender (pour Mifan Careem, avec Christoph Baudson)

En tout, 1 000 étudiants (44 du Canada) provenant de 70 pays seront guidés par 150 organisations. 

À noter qu'OpenStreetMap fera avancer 6 projets. Il y en a même pour Oracle (oops, pour MySQL), 12 projets !

Chaque étudiant reçoit 4 500 USD et 500 USD à l'organisation jouant le rôle de mentorat.
