La compagnie américaine Vexcel vient d’annoncer un nouveau produit intitulé « Virtual Earth Appliance ». VEA livre les mêmes données et fonctionnalités de navigation qu’offre la version en ligne de Virtual Earth, mais en mode « off-line ».

Comme on peut lire dans l’annonce, « With the same API and tiling structure as Virtual Earth, customers can integrate their own data or take advantage of the capabilities of Microsoft’s network of partner companies. The Virtual Earth Appliance also makes possible additional custom capabilities, including the integration of custom content. ».

Vexcel avait retenu l’attention de Microsoft, qui en a fait l’acquisition en mai 2006, à cause de son expérience en production et traitement d’imagerie.
